Message from the President

The St. Regis Columbiettes are a unified body of catholic women founded on March 9th, 1962. Working side-by-side with the St. Regis Knights they promote a true sense of Catholic values through various community, Right to Life and family projects.

The Blue Circle in the Columbiettes' emblem represents the World. The White Cross represents Christ's Love for us - by His Crucifixion, He redeemed the World. The Rays represent our zeal to serve God through the mediums of Faith, Hope and Charity; symbolized by the Three White Stars.

Blessed Mother,
Columbiette Patroness

Membership in the Columbiettes is open women 17 years of age and older who are practicing Catholics in union with the Holy See. Give your name and phone number to any Columbiette or click here to fill out an online form and a member of the membership committee will contact you.

My Dear Sister Columbiettes,

First and foremost, I want to offer a hearty welcome to Margaret Johnson, Dawn Kanyoosky, Karen Mulligan, Linda Savage, Stephanie Stone, and Christine Tallman. These ladies joined us during the First Degree held in April. I would also like to wish a warm welcome back Pat Alvanos, and to Janice Morda, who transferred in from the New Hyde Park Council. You all have joined the best council in Suffolk County, and I encourage you to get involved as we are a very active council and help is definitely
appreciated.

I would also like to offer Congratulations to Laura Balkam for making her Major Degree on April 13, 2008. Laura has jumped right in and volunteered to be the Chairlady for the Night at the Races, which will be in September. Look for more information to follow.

It was great to see so many of you at our April meeting. The special election was held and I’d like to say Congratulations to Pat Blinn on her election to the position of Financial Secretary and also to Nina Makowicz on her election to the position of Treasurer. Our regular elections will be held during the May meeting - see the nominees for the 2008-2009 Officers on the next
page. The nominating committee reported on their selections and voting will take place at the May meeting. All positions are open and any Major Degree holder can run for any position off the floor.

On March 30, we had our Victorian Tea and I have to say it easily surpassed all my expectations. It was absolutely wonderful and I want to say Thank you to Rosemary McMenamin for chairing this event and to all the ladies who helped her. I think everyone who attended will agree that it was a fantastic day, with everyone having a great time and could you believe all the prizes? The purpose of the Tea was to raise money for DDI (Developmental Disabilities Institute for Children with Autism) and it was a huge
success.

Coming up we have our Military Bridge on Saturday, May 24 at 7:00 pm, being chaired by Rose Cardin. If you haven’t attended before, you should really join us for a great night. It actually doesn’t have anything to do with the military or with bridges either. It’s a simple card game that everyone can play and they do teach you how before the games begin.

June 1 is Unity Sunday and our trip to Mohegan Sun. If you are planning to go to Mohegan Sun please sign up in the bar or call Rosemary McMenamin as the bus is almost filled. If you were not planning on going to Mohegan Sun, it would be greatly appreciated if you could represent the Columbiettes at mass for Unity Sunday.

I would like to wish you all a very Happy Mother’s Day!

Regards,

Colleen Wyman
